Colin Energy Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., founded in 2014 and headquartered in Beijing, is a globally renowned energy technology patent holder that inherits over 50 years of R&D experience in entrained-flow gasification technology from the former German Fuel Research Institute (DBI). The company independently owns the complete intellectual property rights of the Colin CCG coal gasification technology and has achieved full localization of both technology and equipment, providing clean coal technology solutions for industries such as coal chemical, fertilizer, and power generation.
The company's core business covers three major sectors: top-mounted multi-nozzle pulverized coal pressurized gasification technology (CCG), electrochemical CO₂ reduction technology, and iron-based hydrogen storage technology. The CCG gasification technology adopts a unique top-mounted multi-burner downward injection design, featuring wide fuel adaptability. It can process lignite, bituminous coal, anthracite, petroleum coke, and "Three Highs" inferior coal (high sulfur, high ash, high ash fusion point), with a carbon conversion rate exceeding 99%, a cold gas efficiency of over 80%, and an effective gas composition (CO+H₂) accounting for 90%-93%. The CO₂ reduction technology utilizes renewable energy to electrochemically convert CO₂ into syngas or formic acid, and a 100 kW-level electrolyzer stack design has been achieved. The hydrogen storage technology uses iron oxide and water as media, achieving long-term stable storage of green hydrogen through modular design, thus solving the intermittency issue of wind and solar energy. The company provides full-process services including technology licensing, process package design, patented equipment design, and technical support.
As of early 2025, the company owns over 50 series and 115 independent intellectual property patents. It has been continuously recognized as a National High-tech Enterprise, a Beijing "Specialized and New" SME, and a Zhongguancun High-tech Enterprise. In 2017, it won the 19th China Patent Excellence Award; in 2020, it received the International Cooperation Innovation Award from the China (Germany) R&D Innovation Alliance; and in 2018, it became a member unit of the China Hydrogen Alliance. The R&D headquarters is located in Dresden, Germany, with a technical team from internationally renowned institutions such as the former German Fuel Research Institute and the Schwarze Pumpe gasification plant.
The Colin gasification technology has been successfully applied in many large-scale coal chemical projects in China, including the 2×1500 TPD "Three Highs" coal gasification unit in Guizhou Kaiyang Chemical (the world's first large-scale entrained-flow gasification unit using "Three Highs" coal as the sole feedstock), the 2×1200 TPD ethylene glycol project in Inner Mongolia Konner, the 6×2000 TPD MTO project of Qinghai Mining, the 5×2000 TPD coal graded utilization project of Shaanxi Coal Yulin, and the 5×2000 TPD wastewater co-treatment project of Guoneng Baotou. In 2025, Guizhou Kaiyang Chemical achieved its annual synthetic ammonia target 42 days ahead of schedule using the Colin gasifier, verifying the technology's reliability and economic viability.
